Nestled along the foothills of Interstate 15 south of Blue Diamond Road, Southern Highlands is home to about 20,000 residents and offers easy access to the Strip and McCarran International Airport.
The 2,700-acre community features the exclusive Southern Highlands Golf Club, consistently ranked among the best in the country. Spa Southern Highlands offers a fitness center, massage and treatment rooms, 25-meter lap pool and outdoor Jacuzzi with cabanas.
Olympia Development Corp. has invested more than $200 million in Southern Highlands' infrastructure, including a fire station, 50 acres of parks and trails, schools, office buildings and the Boys & Girls Club of Southern Highlands. Community events include a Memorial Day celebration with barbecue and fireworks, the Southern Highlands all Festival and a tree-lighting ceremony in December.
Goett Family Park in the center of the community provides a children's playground area, basketball court, volleyball sand court, and lots of green space with exercise stations. Another large park in Southern Highlands is Somerset Hills with covered picnic areas, tennis courts and a water play area for children. There's also small dog park.
At buildout, Southern Highlands is expected to have about 8,500 residential units. Home builders include D.R. Horton, American West, Christopher Homes, Richmond American, Phillips Homes and Pacific Southwest Development. Floor plans range from 1,000 square feet to more than 5,000 square feet. The guard-gated Estates offers custom homes on half-acre to 2-acre golf course lots.
Southern Highlands Schools
The primary public school is Frias Elementary. Most of Southern Highlands is zoned for Desert Oasis High School and Tarkanian Middle School. There's also the private Southern Highlands Preparatory School.
Southern Highlands Shopping
Olympia developed the 21-acre Southern Highlands Marketplace neighborhood shopping center at Cactus Avenue and Southern Highlands Parkway, anchored by Smith's Food and Drug Center. Casual restaurants in the community include Capriotti's Sandwich Shop, Off The Strip and Barcelona Tapas and Bar. M Resort is a short drive away with seven restaurants, including rooftop dining at Veloce Cibo and Italian favorites and prime steaks at Anthony's. More retail has sprung up along Blue Diamond Road, including Albertson's, Walgreens and a Target-anchored shopping center.
Southern Highlands Golf
The 7,381-yard, par-72 Southern Highlands course, designed by the late Robert Trent Jones Sr., challenges players with dramatic elevation changes and plenty of water features. The championship layout accommodates players of all skill levels with five sets of tee boxes. The club has hosted two PGA events and was named as one of the top residential courses in the country by Golf Digest in 2007.
